Habitat Restoration Tree Planting

  • Date and Time: March 30:  9:00 am – 2:00 pm Bring your own lunch.
  • Location: Whitley County, Flying Rooster Farm, Landowner is a strong conservationist, wildlife enthusiast and past tree farmer of the year.
  • Partners: Department for Natural Resources, Whitley County Conservation District, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, Kentucky Division of Forestry, Kentucky Abandoned Mine Lands, Kentucky Division of Conservation, Natural Resource Conservation Service, US Forest Service, University of Kentucky- Department of Forestry and Natural Resources, Kentucky Tree Farm Committee, Kentucky Woodland Owners Association.
  • The goal is habitat restoration by planting/reforesting a variety of hardwood tree species on 17 acres on an old reclamation site and discussion with the landowner telling his story on how he has been restoring the site since 2000 and working with a long list partners and cost share programs to get it accomplished.
